Zig ZIglar, internationally acclaimed speaker and author, often stated that “our attitude will determine our altitude in life.” He would always end his seminars with his signature statement “I will see you at the top!” In short, your attitude, whether at work or home, will determine how far you’ll go and successful you will be.

Infuse Others with Optimism, Hope and Enthusiasm

“What happens to the temperature of the room when you walk in? Whether you are currently employed or interviewing for a job, does the energy take a noticeable dip or does your presence spark a heightened sense of excitement and fun? Research has shown that the most influen- tial person in the room is the one with the best attitude—in other words, the most hopeful and optimistic. If ever there was a time for optimism, it is today! What can you bring to your new setting? Do others see this or something else?

Exercise: Ask three friends who will give you honest feed- back the following questions:

1. When you talk with me face-to-face these days, what energy do I give off? (e.g., positive, negative, etc.)

  1. How likely would you be to ask me to take on a big task to lighten your own load?
  2. Is there any issue, attitude, or mood you feel I am trying to mask but my body language says otherwise?

What did you learn? It is truly amazing how our attitude and body language can communicate even those things we wish to keep concealed. What are you saying without words?”
