In countries like Malawi, a well just 60
feet deep can bring new health and life
to a community of 150 people. The well
your gift helps dig will be capable of
providing more than 600 gallons of safe
water a day for drinking, bathing,
irrigating crops, and nourishing
livestock.
Give a share of a deep well fitted with
a hand pump, and you can help provide up
to 2,800 gallons of safe water a day for
as many as 300 people! In many
communities, clean water lies hundreds
of feet below layers of hard rock.
Children have no choice but to drink
disease-infested water from surface
lakes and ponds. When our drilling teams
strike water, entire villages erupt in
celebration because a clean water source
can cut a community’s child mortality
rate in half.
Dr. Dyment has a personal connection
with Malawi, South Africa and Congo,
Africa where he witnessed firsthand the
amazing work World Vision is doing
there. As a college student, on his
first of four trips to Africa, his
priorities were forever changed as he
saw groups of villagers walking miles
along a road in South Africa just to
retrieve water from a parasite-infested
pond, their only source of water. Seeing
this unacceptable, tragic practice and
the deadly effect it had on the children
is all it took.
Bill puts it this way: “Of course, we
can’t save the whole world but there is
so much even one of us living in the
West can do. Each of us can have a
tremendous impact on this world if we
just adjust our lifestyle from spending
up to the very limits of our income and
redirect a bit more of our funds toward
helping others who have no advocate.
No car I’ve ever purchased has given me
as much joy as knowing that I’ve had a
role in saving the lives of scores of
toddlers in a village I’ve visited. In
the end, for me, it comes down to simple
choices—rethinking that deluxe leather
interior, that pair of shoes I don’t
really need, that new gadget you feel
you simply must have this year instead
of next year.”
